Naming Your New Business
By kathrynv on Jul 26, 2008 in Business

One of the toughest things about starting a new business is, oddly enough, trying to figure out what to name the business. A good name can generate business for a company by getting the attention of customers. It can even get attention to websites because it includes the right keywords built into it so search engines will be more likely to notice it.
For example, if you were going to open up a cooking school then you would want to include the fact that it was a cooking school in the name of the school. You would also want to include the location of the school. So you would name it the Culinary Academy of California or the Cooking Institute of Chicago or something along those lines. This would get the attention of culinary students specifically looking at schools for cooking and also would please the search engines that recognize both the type of school and the location just from the name of the school.
Of course, not all businesses will have names that are this straightforward. Some businesses are edgier than others and their names will reflect this. Alliteration and a sense of humor may be used in naming the business. But trying to keep the purpose of the business and its location obvious from the name really helps in the long run.
