I just got a job working for the city of Ft. Lauderdale Florida. It’s not a really glamorous job, but it is a job! Fortunately I already had my commercial driver’s license when they started hiring, because they chose me as one of the new street sweepers. Now I know you are picturing me with a broom in my hands, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I drive one of those weird looking trucks that kick up the dust all over your shiny car you just took to the car wash.

The pay isn’t all that great, but the benefits are incredible. First of all, we get every holiday you can think of off. I’m not just talking about ones like Christmas and Thanksgiving either. I think they made some of these holidays up! Is Columbus Day really a holiday? It must be, because I get it off! And then there is the Florida group health insurance. It is so awesome. There was no way I could afford FL health insurance before this job. I know this for a fact because in my last job I had tried to go through a Ft. Lauderdale health insurance salesman, and they denied me. Anyway, it is not a bad job, and the benefits make it all worth while!
