Wall Street in Politics

Perhaps it should be no surprise that the candidates incorporated yesterday’s Wall Street crisis into their campaigning tactics. Both of them started talking about what their plans are to avoid similar crises if they are elected president.

I agree that the stock market is something that deserves attention. In many ways it is so incredibly fragile, so quickly affected by problems with the economy, either real or imagined. Are futures trading and day trading forex really good ways to make money, and are they good for the economy? Perhaps it is time someone took a closer look at the system and made sure it is not a liability in an already fragile economy.

Admittedly, though, I don’t know very much about Wall Street. I have the basic ideas of how the stock market works, and the forces that move it up and down, but I don’t know much about the principles of more advanced subjects such as day trading. For instance, if you asked me what a forex trading system was, I would probably visualize either a watch (i.e. Timex) or an old fashioned frontier trading post!

In other words, don’t take my advice… But I still do think it’s funny that the presidential candidates are both competing on this subject. Quick — who can think of the better solution first, and therefore win more votes???
