Graphic Design Programs: Brooks Institute vs. Brown College

Graphic Design has been a popular area of study for artists over the course of approximately the past century. However, in the last several years, it has cropped up as a degree of specific interest to artists who work on the web. Because it does have such a long history as well as such important applications today, there are many different institutions which offer degree programs in Graphic Design. And because there are so many different ways to approach the art, from freelance hand design to online web design, different schools may offer very different programs.

As an example, let’s take a look at two schools which offer graphic design degrees: Brooks Institute and Brown College. Brooks Institute is known as a photography school and places a heavy emphasis on the visual images associated with graphic design. This creates a focus on the art of the degree. In contrast, Brown College is specifically focused on job training which means that their graphic degree program emphasizes the hands-on business applications of the art. Both schools may lead to graphic design careers but they take very different approaches to educating their students. Students considering a graphic degree design will want to think carefully about the type of classroom experience they are seeking to achieve.
