Quilting the Modern Way »

Quilting is an enduring American tradition that has come to signify the importance of family and kinship through the ages. One of the earliest communal quilting traditions goes back to the slave trade when African slaves would create beautiful traditional quilts with bright colors and diamond patterns. These quilts told stories of birth and re birth; and tribal customs, and designs included patterns that kept away evil spirits.

As quilt making went main stream, they began to be used to record memories, and to create a family heirloom that could be passed on to generations. Motifs and patterns were included to celebrate special moments, and soon photos began to make their appearance. The quilt had evolved into a large family photo album that you could actually wrap around yourself.

It’s harder to find the time to make traditional quilts these days, and technology has made it possible for you to create heirloom pieces that can be passed on to your children. A personalized photo blanket with pictures of important moments in your family life, not only makes a comforting quilt for your child when used as part of her kids bedding, but can also be gifted to your children when they leave for college as a unique personalized gift. With a blanket full of memories to wrap around themselves, your kids will never feel like they are so far from home.

4 Types of Printing for Marketing »

If you are involved in the business of marketing (or you need to do marketing for your business in general) then it is very important that you understand the different types of publishing that are popular for the printing of marketing materials today.

There are four types of printing that you should know about if you are going to need to be printing any marketing communications materials:

1. Variable data printing. This is a type of mass-printing which allows for personalized data to be changed from piece to piece. For example, you may print a mailer that has a different recipient’s name on each piece.

2. On demand printing. These days it is possible to just print the materials that you need as you need them rather than having to print a whole bunch of the material at once and risking having leftovers that you didn’t need in the first place.

3. Web-to-print. This is a specific version of on demand printing in which you store the materials that you want to print in an online format and then print them as needed using the services of a professional printer.

4. Offset printing. This is more like the traditional printing that has always been used in marketing and something that remains important today.

In order to get the best return on marketing investment, you need to understand all of the different types of printing that are available to you for all of your printing needs.

Japanese Water Gardens »

I have always admired the Japanese water gardens, with the big beautiful lily floating on the surface and a gentle waterfall trickling nearby.  However, we never had the time to construct one before.  Fortunately, we recently began working from home with a part-time schedule. Now that we spend more time at home I put the water garden back on the list of things to do, but we really didn’t know where to start.

After I started looking at everything we needed, I had to decide if we really wanted to do it our selves or if we wanted to hire a professional.  There are pumps, floats, pipe, and a flow meter required to monitor how the arrangement is operating.  I knew I could get most of the items at our local building supply, but where does someone buy an instrument that monitors water flow measurement?  I didn’t have to look far before I found them on-line.  Everything I needed was not only easy to find on the internet but also not as expensive.

My favorite part was filling it with the beautiful landscape and watching everything settle in.  Now we take breaks by sitting out back and enjoying the serenity of our Japanese water garden.  Although I enjoyed building it myself, if I had it to do over again, I might have consulted with an expert who knows more about things like a mass flow meter or blanketweed.

Take Care of your Truck Bed »

So you go to a great deal of trouble making sure your pickup truck’s paint job is pristine, the chrome stays shiny and it never goes more than a week without a detailed wash. That’s great. Now, what about the inside of your truck bed? Why take such care with the rest of your vehicle, while throwing abrasive, harsh loads into the bed of your truck?

Luckily, there are many ways to keep your pickup truck’s bed looking like new. You could consider buying either a spray on or drop in bed liner, which is a great way to keep the bed looking like the day you bought it. These liners are generally not that expensive, and they are easily installed by either you or your local car parts retailer.

Another idea is to purchase truck bed covers to help you maintain the quality of your pickup truck. A pickup truck accessories retailer should have many different choices when it comes to these covers, including both hard and soft models. Usually, users who need quick and frequent access to their truck bed will prefer the hard models that easily lift open and closed; however, these models also limit the vertical load capacity of the beds. Soft bed covers snap or roll on and off, making them very simple to remove. Another great benefit of these covers is that they save users money on gas, because they increase the gas efficiency of their vehicles. Who knew saving money and taking care of your truck could be as easy as snapping on a bed cover?
