I have to admit that Jeb’s rural remedy for mosquito bites was amazing. It worked better than anything I’ve every used, short of Benadryl of course. My friend and I had gone on this fishing trip and had just gotten bitten to death; Jeb, the local was kind enough to help us out. I’d go as far as saying it even saved our first GA fishing trip. Well, that and the local beverage, which was about as authentic you could get without going blind; the fact that I could barely feel my arms went along way toward alleviating the itching. OK, that’s an exaggeration, but it was pretty good.
An odd thing happened the next day. Dave actually caught a decent sized bass. At first, we were sure that this had to be the highlight of our Georgia fly fishing extravaganza, and we celebrated accordingly, but something was missing, and our celebration just seemed to be lacking something.
And we realized that we had to eat the fish, lest the deed remain incomplete. What is the point of going out into the wild and catching your own food, if you aren’t going to eat it?
So we pulled out our handy Georgia fly fishing guides, which were turning out to be pretty useless. We couldn’t find a thing about preparing a fish, so guess what we did: we got in the truck, buckled down, and drove to pay another visit to our good buddy Jeb, who was half asleep and helpful as usual.
I feel like I was too hard on the locals for ripping us off earlier. I’m pretty sure they did rip us off initially, but Jeb probably more than made up for it. He gutted the fish for us while giving instructions, and lent us a knife for the rest of the trip free of charge, just in case we got lucky again.
He also gave us some lemons to use on the fish… oh, and more of the local beverage.
My grandmother’s golden years have produced many beautiful paintings. Although she never held a professional job, she dedicated herself to community enrichment. As president of the local woman’s club my grandmother quickly enrolled her daughters, her granddaughters and her neighbors. As club members the family bonded while informing the community about elder abuse resources to preparing shoe-box gifts for third world countries.
In addition the women attended national conventions and met women from all over the country. Locally the club informed families taking care of Senior citizens about the advantages of home health care training. Many home health care providers offer caregiver wellness dvds to inform families about elderly care.
My grandmother’s commitment to her community has inspired the whole family. Her paintings have won many local awards and currently she’s working on a painting for a new community group. Even in her late eighties she remains active with her art and her civic duties. Throughout her life she has remained focused on the needs in her community and the concept that one voice can make a difference. This year several of her kids are actively involved in the election. My mom has been knocking on doors and manning phone lines for her candidate. My grandmother still inspires.
With the real estate search tools the Internet offers these days, a real estate agent is much less of a necessity than it used to be. My husband and I found and purchased our house without either us or the seller using an agent, and we found the Internet to be a valuable tool for browsing the available homes in our area.
The Internet is especially handy if you will be moving to a new area and need to get a jump start on looking for homes. You can easily find everything you need online, whether you are looking for Jacksonville homes for sale or Chicago Illinois real estate. Heck, you can even shop for a home in Thailand while sitting at your computer halfway around the world!
There are many different resources you can use to search for homes online, whether you are looking locally or in another city. For instance, there are some real estate websites that offer the ability to search all properties by size, price, location, MLS number, etc. Most major real estate offices also have searchable websites, so that you can check all of the listings from that particular Realtor.
Community websites can also be extremely helpful in finding a home. Craigslist is probably the most widely known example, as they have a popular housing section each city’s website where you can list and browse local homes for sale. However, did you know that YouTube can also be very helpful in finding a home in another city? Many agents post videos of the interiors on this site, which really helps you make a long-distance decision about which homes you should tour first when you get into town!
As you may know, I’m a freelance website designer that works with businesses across the world to improve their online visibility. It’s a cool job, and I get to work form the comfort of my home. Another thing I really like about it is I learn a lot about random things.
For instance, right now I’m building a website for a company that lets you sell gold to them for cash. Basically, they give you the market gold value whenever you sell scrap gold. It’s pretty neat. People send in their old gold jewelry, and get paid big bucks for it.
Now, I would have never known anything like this existed if it wasn’t for being a website designer. My mind is seriously full of random, useless facts that make me sound a lot smarter than I really am. I’m quickly turning into “that guy” that always has some random information to add to every topic of conversation that comes up.
So, let’s see-in the past week I’ve learned about selling gold for cash, heavy lifting machinery, hair restoration products, and the local commercial real estate market. If only there was a game show where I could put all this random information to use. Now, that would be cool.
Now that summer is over and soon it will be winter, I’ll have to turn to salon tanning to try to stay healthy looking throughout the colder months. I’m naturally very pale, so if I don’t hit the tanning bed at least once a month I end up looking like a ghost and that’s not very attractive. But I’m always worried about drying my skin out. As far as I can figure there’s no sense in maintaining my tan if my skin is all scaly. That’s why I decided to ditch my usual tanning lotion and try something new.
The best tanning lotions are the ones that also double as a moisturizer. That way you are getting some protection for your skin when you are using a tanning bed. I know that I could always stick to what I was using and then use a separate moisturizer right after tanning, but I don’t like the idea of adding yet another step to my beauty regime. It’s a lot easier to have the moisturizer already in the tanning lotion for that extra protection. Besides, I decided to go with a dark tanning lotion this winter because we’re planning a trip to the Caribbean and I wanted to make sure my tan was nice and dark before we got there, so I wouldn’t burn while on vacation.
