A Tendency To Exaggerate
By kathrynv on Jul 22, 2008 in Society
My sister has this irritating trait. She likes to exaggerate absolutely everything that she’s talking about. This makes it difficult to know whether she’s really excited about something or whether she’s just moderately interested in it and exaggerating it beyond reason.
For example, she’s the kind of person who never tells you that she bought a new dark tanning lotion. She will tell you that she has found the best suntan lotion ever and you just absolutely have to throw out whatever you thought was the best tanning lotion because this one is a million times better.
If you don’t know her well, you might be inclined to hurry up and try this product since it seems so amazing. But if you know her, you know that there’s a good chance that she’s going to have a different tanning lotion next week that she loves just as much as the last one. That’s my sister.
It’s not a bad thing, really, I suppose. In fact, it’s kind of cute that she can continue to get so excited about every little thing that she encounters in life. It almost gives her a childlike sense of fun that is great to be around a lot of the time.
However, it can also get old. It’s kind of like the whole "crying wolf" thing. You just never know when something is really important or really matters to her because she’s always exaggerating the value of everything. This has resulted in hurt feelings on her part in the past because she thinks we should know something matters and we just blow it off.
